Melbourne

5 06 2008

The artificial long weekend up in Forster seems a long time ago now. I long for another….

Thankfully, we have one! This weekend, to celebrate the birth of a Queen of some description, Adri and I will be heading off for a long weekend in Melbourne!

We are planning on enjoying:

  1. Shopping
  2. Coffee
  3. Boutique Victorian Beers

We fly out on Saturday morning and come back Monday lunchtime. We are staying in a little hotel in St Kilda.

Should be fantastic!

Any tips, tricks, suggestions or warnings for where to go, what to drink, etc in Melbourne? I am thinking especially of coffee and beer!

If you’re in St Kilda and fancy some top beers – and don’t want to miss out on Mountain Goat, which was a top recommendation – then check out the Local (also known as the Taphouse) on Carlisle Street, which has just opened and has about 20 taps. Otherwise St Kilda’s a bit wine bar orientated so boutique beer hunting requires looking further afield. Keep your eyes peeled for Hargreaves Hill and Redhill beers if you’re after top Victorian stuff

Coffee in Melbourne rocks … you absolutely must get to –

Maling Room – Maling Rd, in Canterbury
St. Ali – Yarra Pl, South Melb
The First Pour – Bond St/Rd?, Abbotsford
Brother Baba Budan – CBD

Also try, 7 Grams, Liar Liar, Atomica…

Hey all. Thanks alot!

Bruceandfran – great suggestions! I hadn’t heard of Hargreaves Hill before, so I will definitely keep an eye out for them. I think we are staying near carlisle st so I will definitely pop in to the Local. I have always enjoyed the Mountain Goat stuff so will be good to try on tap.

Michelle – I knew you would have some good recommendations! Might be tough to hit up all of those places. St Ali is definitely on the list and I really like the sound of the Clover. We are thinking of picking up some beans while we are there.

Dave – I respect your opinion.

I love Melbourne.

St Ali – good call.

Shopping in Bridge Rd is cool. Heaps of shops with some Outlets scattered amongst.

Enjoy!
