From here.

24 10 2008

Adri and I are off to Brisbane this weekend to enjoy a brief holiday visiting the Lovells.

The plan is to:

  • Go to their new church with them on Sunday morning
  • Give Isaac lots of cuddles
  • Drive up to Noosa for a day
  • Go to Wet’n’Wild!

We will be coming home on Monday night.

I always like to check out the coffee scene when I visit a city. I know of here and here. Any other recommendations?

We have a fairly tight schedule, but is there anything we absolutely must do whilst in Brisbane? Pubs, restaurants, shops, etc?

How about things we should avoid at all costs?

I’m super-excited!

All done!

A huge relief.

Wasn’t a terrible exam. Only one question that really got me. The rest were pretty tough but I managed to get something down.

Results in mid December I think.

Thanks for your well wishes.

One day to go

21 10 2008

My exam is tomorrow afternoon!

I’m feeling *relatively* prepared, which is unusual for me. I’m a crammer from way back.

Today, I need to put down some notes to take into the exam and peruse the past papers for any hints and tips.

The topics are: Pricing, Capital Management and Financial Condition Reporting. I am still a bit hazy on capital and a subtopic on appraisal values, but I think today I should be able to digest enough to get by.

Will be good to have it behind me.

Near Death Experiences

17 10 2008

The Today show this morning had a segment about near death experiences.

They had a doctor of anthropology talking about studies in near-death experiences, what people have seen on the “other side”, how this differs across cultures, etc.

But what he said at the end was most interesting to me. He has had a near death experience of his own. He says he experienced painlessness and fearlessness and he was able to travel through time. It was a positive, life-changing experience and now he has nothing to fear.

“I am a good man, I’ve lived a good life, I’ve faced death and I know that it’s ok!”

Do you think we can really have an understanding of things “outside” our world or our lives by observing from within?

If we studied what a million different people said they saw whilst having a near-death experience we may come up with a million different answers. Who’s to say which is the “truth”?

But there must be a “truth”…

Maybe the only way to know for sure is for someone from outside our lives and our creation to come in and tell us how it is.

Maybe then we can get an understanding of what happens after we die, whether we are ready for that and what we can do now to be prepared if we are not.

Four In Hand

17 10 2008

Went to Four In Hand restaurant for dinner last night to celebrate my brothers birthday.

For entree, I had a Pigs Ear Schnitzel! As unusual as that concept sounds – it was absolutely delicious. As was the barramundi for main.

Dessert was probably the highlight though. Macerated strawberries, basil sorbet and yoghurt granita. Yum!

15 10 2008

I haven’t posted in over a week because:

  1. I should be studying – I have an exam in 1 week
  2. I am a slacker
  3. I didn’t have anything to say

But yesterday, this happened!

This sort of attention is unprecedented at le blog de guthers. I should lift my game appropriately.

I’ll get right on that.

Word of the Week

Paul holds that some Jews who call themselves Christians and who insist that Gentile Christians become Jews are simply unwilling to face the opprobriumthey will have to suffer from some fellow Jews if their closest “brothers” and “sisters” are unkosher Gentiles.

Don Carson, For the Love of God. September 30 devotion on Galtians 6.

Opprobrium – Public disgrace or ill-fame that follows from conduct considered grossly wrong or vicious.

Google 2001

1 10 2008

The lifehacker website has linked to a Google website that allows you to search it’s 2001 index.

Not much interesting about September 11 yet.

Kim Beazley is leader of the opposition.

Britney Spears is an up and coming superstar!

Anything else interesting in 2001?
