Swine Flu

28 04 2009

Swine Flu is spreading and so is the panic. Deaths in Mexico have already reached 150, which is a bit scary when you think about it.

Hopefully, we have learnt enough from Bird Flu that this won’t be as disasterous as people fear. It’s a bit scary when the WHO is worried it won’t have enough drugs. Eeeek. Pandemic sounds scary.

It does beg the question though, which would you rather be infected with? Swine flu, bird flu or equine flu?

I like bacon – so its swine flu for me. Plus, pigs have big noses, so thats got to make sneezing easier right?

Sunday Roast – Syphon Coffee

26 04 2009

I got the 17th issue of “Cafe Culture” thisweek. It’s described as the magazine for the cafe industry and retails for $6.95. But the have been sending it to me for free ever since I put my details down when I went to watch Sam compete in a barista competition.

Anyhoo, there is an article in this issue entitled “Japanese Syphon”. It’s all about syphon coffee, which has apparently been around since the 1830s, but is only new to me. I only know what I’ve read from Michelle.

I’m very keen to learn more. Apparently, Mecca has some syphons in store. I’m thinking about asking them for a syphon brew this week.

Happy ANZAC Day

25 04 2009

How did you spend your ANZAC Day? Are you a dawn service kind of person? Did you watch a family member march?

I was very interested to read on Michael Kellehan’s blog the origins of the phrase “Lest we forget”. Cracking poem.

Good to remember the sacrifice of brave men and women who fought for their country. Even better to remember that God is in control of all things, including the rise and fall of empires.

Thursday Thought – Twitter

23 04 2009

I think I’m not entirely sure about this twitter thing.

I don’t tweet. Well I have an account, even 3 followers, but I’ve never used it. I don’t even look at other peoples tweets, unless they pop up on facebook.

The concept just hasn’t grabbed me. It reminds me of the old “icq” days. Remember that? I dunno why. Lots of people, saying lots, but with not much to say.

Am I being too harsh? Have I just not given twitter enough of a chance? If you tweet, why? What do you love about it?

Congratulations…

… to my darling wife.

She just got a promotion!

Well done Adri!

Half-Price Mussels

23 04 2009

If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend you get down to the Belgian Beer Cafe in Balmain (or the Rocks) on a Wednsday night for some half-price mussels and some tasty Belgian beer.

(It’s just as well the mussels are half price, cos the beers are EX-PEN-SIVE)

This is what Adri and I did last night with Hamm and some of the young trendy people from 7fifteen at St Paul’s.

Good times.
